Alexandre Pato - The Duck

Alexandre Pato could not ask for more on his international debut against Sweden. He scored a beautful goal, played a beautiful game and showed all Brazilians that he is the new guy in town.

His parent called him after the game and they were in tears and overwhelmed over their sons performance.

“My parents called me after the game and they were in tears,” said Pato.

“I was emotional as well, I thank them for everything I’m achieving in my life, for the way they’ve been close to me and how they’ve educated me.”

Eventhough Pato scored an excellent and difficult goal he is always modest and thats what makes this teenager special.

“I saw the ball behind me and I noticed the goalkeeper had come out, I fired a shot and fortunately it went in,” explained Pato.

“I’m happy about this goal which came on my debut and the comparison with Pelé who scored in the 1958 World Cup final against Sweden makes me happy. For me he is an idol, a phenomenon. At the moment my career is doing well and I have to work a lot to keep my place in the Brazilian national team. I’m very happy about the compliments I’ve gotten from many people who have shown me their affection.”

Although it was an amazing night for Pato, he still had some sad memories playing at Emirates Stadium.

“Coming back to play at the Emirates stadium where we played against Arsenal made me a bit sad as it reminded me of the elimination in the Champions League, but it was nice to win with my national team in the stadium. Now in the league we have to reach the fourth place in order to play in the Champions League again next year.”

Alexandre Pato scored against Sweden on his international debut with a lob over the keeper. Shaaban the Swedish keeper ran out to clear the ball but passed it straight to Pato who sent a curling lob through a tight angle giving Brazil the lead.”It was a great goal, with the technical quality,” Brazil coach Dunga said. “It was his first (international) goal and it’s always good. It builds his confidence.”

This will give Pato and Brazil confidence in the youngster and I’m sure in the coming months Pato will be a starter. Today he came off the bench at the 60th minute and scored 12 minutes later.

It was a good result for Brazil considering they did not have Ronaldinho and Kaka.

Alexandre Pato is a massive fan of Ronaldo, although he would love to achieve what Ronaldo has achieved he does not like to be compared with the three times player of the year.

“Leave aside words like phenomenon,” he said.

“I still have everything to prove.”

The word phenomenon belongs to that of Ronaldo and Pato does not like to be compared to his hero.

Another Brazilian player Pato has been compared to is Pele. Just like Pato will debut against Sweden tonight, Pele did the same 50 years ago.

“Pelè is the history of football. But let’s leave the comparisons, is it possible?.” Pato said once again.

It will be interesting to see how Pato performs tonight. It’s only a friendly so lets hope the Pato goes out and has fun.
